Farm visits are a great opportunity for primary aged children to experience the countryside and life on the farm, as well as being active and being on holiday! National educational charity, The Country Trust is now offering farm visits that can be tailored for your school holiday club to help children enjoy the countryside, and understand where food comes from. These visits have the additional benefit of providing children with happy memories, hands-on experiences and lots of fun activities.
If your club is targeting pupils eligible for Free School Meals and can organise its own transport, then The Country Trust could help you with a free farm visit and may even be able to help with transport costs too.
Last year, Headfield Junior School, Dewsbury enjoyed a farm visit to White Quarry Farm, Tadcaster in North Yorkshire during the summer holidays. The mixed group of KS2 children had a great day out helping to harvest vegetables and sweet peas in the vegetable garden and water the plants. They also enjoyed a guided walk with the farmer and explored the farm’s orchard before spending time playing with a group of adorable Labrador puppies! “Today was not what I expected, it honestly surpassed my vision of how it would be, so once again a big thank you for your time and support!” said a member of staff afterwards.
The Country Trust has a range of host farmers across England and North Wales and the charity can create a farm visit especially for your club, regardless of ability, or special needs.
